Nivel caja Serie 1 86 pulgadas caja de cambios.
Hola,

Suerte,
Paco

I've searched the forum (below) and come up with advice similar to that from my parts distributor which suggests 2.5 pints is the 'correct' oil capacity for the gearbox.
I have drained my gearbox & refilled it accurately with 2.5 pints of oil (following an engine rebuild, new clutch & withdrawal mechanism). However, the gearbox dipstick shows the oil level to be almost twice as far up the dipstick as the level marked 'H'.
Neither the engine or the gearbox have yet been run as the carb and distributor still need fitting.
Can anyone advise whether this is typical and the oil level will reduce once the engine & gearbox are actually run or alternatively, should I be considering draining some of the gearbox oil before I attempt to get the vehicle up and running ?
I really don't want to risk contaminating the new clutch, but nor do I wish to see the gearbox run dry.
Any advice or wisdom on the best course of action would be appreciated.

Could it be too much oil as the amount of oil was reduced for later gearboxes and a modification was recommended to be done on the earlier boxes. There is reference to this in the workshop manual page 104 this applies to 1948-1953 gearboxes.
This is right, the oil levels were initially: gearbox = appx. 4 pints / 2.25 litres; transfer box = appx. 6 pints / 3.5 litres. Dipstick was marked, and transfer box level was situated, to give these quantities. These quantities caused problems, so were revised to: gearbox = appx. 2.5 pints / 1.5 litres, transfer box = appx. 4.5 pints / 2.5 litres. That is what should be right for any Series One. If your vehicle has had an earlier gearbox or transfer box swopped in at some point, that might explain the problem. If in doubt, measure the oils in.
Según el manual se debe llenar hasta la marca H. Te adjunto la parte del manual donde lo explica.
Muchas gracias pues si me puedes poner el manual te lo agradecería.

Hola herrero,
perdona por no haber respondido antes.
Puedes bajarte el manual de nuestra página:
https://sites.google.com/site/landroverseriesone/models/manuals
En concreto:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-uEPi7bxTsQdHRLYzFROWlBams
