Hola,

Como no descarto tampoco que encuentre un Td5 y me lo quede, tambien estoy investigando este motor, por ello pongo aqui los boletines oficiales que vaya encontrando, por si para alguien mas es de utilidad tenerlos todos juntos.

Oil in ECU

Flywheel Cracking/Disintegration

There is a Land Rover recall for a small number of early Defender and Discovery Td5s for flywheel replacement.

As a result of the manufacturing process, the engine flywheel may develop surface cracks which under certain high load conditions can propagate, ultimately resulting in disintegration of the flywheel.

The affected vehicles are:

Defender
XA145775 to XA181042

Oil Pump Bolt Problems

There has come to light a potential problem with the oil pump sprocket securing bolt working loose on Td5 engines.

The problem was reported on the BBC's consumer affairs programme 'Watchdog' in March 2004.

At present there are no definite causes or list of affected vehicles, but it is worth being aware of the problem.

It seems that there is an assembly problem causing the bolt securing the drive sprocket on the oil pump to work loose. The bolt in highlighted in red below, is found on the left hand side of the bottom of the engine, and is accessed by removing the sump from the engine.

The problem symptoms are a loss of oil pressure causing the oil pressure warning light to illuminate in the instrument panel.

The engine should be switched off immediately on the warning light illuminating, as there will be no oil pressure. This is caused by the sprocket dropping off the oil pump and allows it to spin freely on the bolt.

If the engine is run without oil pressure, it is likely to seize and this will probably require a replacement engine to be fitted.

You can check the bolt by removing the sump. The oil pump is located at the front of the engine on the right hand side (looking at the top). According to the workshop manual for the Defender and Discovery Td5, the oil pump sprocket retaining bolt should have Loctite 242 applied to the threads, and tightened to 25 Nm (18 lbf.ft).

Faulty Water Sensor

Affected Vehicles
Vehicle VIN Range
Defender Td5 All

There is a known problem with the fuel water sensor coming on despite the filter being clear of water.

One cause is moisture contamination of the sensor electrode, the sensor seal or the mating face. To clean these areas, follow these steps:

1.Turn the ignition off and remove the sensor multiplug.
2.Position a container able to hold approximately 0.5 litres of diesel under the fuel filter.
3.Drain the filter of diesel by unscrewing the water sensor until fuel flows from the drain tube.
4.Completely remove the sensor, and using a soft, dry cloth, clean the sensor electrode, sensor seal and mating face, as arrowed below:

5. Refit the water sensor and replace the multiplug.

If cleaning of the sensor makes no difference, it is likely that the sensor is faulty, and will require replacement.

Vehicle Part Number
Defender WKW000030
